Kickstarting the Einstein Science Challenge with 245 Brilliant Young Minds
Season 14 of the Einstein Science Challenge—the flagship STEM initiative of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt GRA—has officially begun, continuing its proud mission of nurturing the next generation of scientists, innovators, and problem solvers.
Created to ignite curiosity, reward scientific excellence, and inspire young minds to see science as a practical tool for transforming society, the challenge has grown into one of Port Harcourt’s most impactful STEM platforms for secondary school students.
Young Minds Put to the Test
The journey for Season 14 kicked off on February 13, 2026, when 245 senior secondary school students from 51 schools across Rivers State gathered at the ICT Centre of Rivers State University for the Computer-Based Test (CBT) screening. Selected from over 200 invited institutions—with about 20 schools participating for the very first time—the impressive turnout reflects the expanding reach and prestige of the program.
Inside the CBT hall, the atmosphere was focused yet calm as students demonstrated their knowledge and scientific reasoning across core subjects:

Participants walked away inspired by the experience. “Big thank you to the organisers of the Einstein Science Challenge for inviting us to participate,” shared Victor Onyeka Daniel from Jephthah Comprehensive Secondary School, echoed by classmate Ayiri Ajinomisanghani, who added, “Thanks to Rotary for such a great opportunity.” Several returning students also voiced their strong determination to advance further in this year’s rigorous stages.
What Comes Next?
Following the rigorous screening stage, 112 outstanding students qualified for Phase 2, where they will undergo intensive training designed to sharpen their analytical skills and scientific understanding.
The competition will ultimately culminate in Phase 3: The Project Exhibition, where students will present innovative science projects showcasing real-world creativity, hands-on research, and the practical application of STEM knowledge.

Since its inception during the 2012–2013 Rotary year, the Einstein Science Challenge has impacted over 1,000 students, many of whom have successfully transitioned into science-related fields in higher education.
As Season 14 progresses, the challenge continues to open doors for young people to think critically, explore boldly, and discover how their ideas can shape tomorrow. After all, every great discovery begins with a curious mind.
