District Governor Unveils Solar Water Project and Safety Upgrades at Model Secondary School GRA Port Harcourt

In the heart of Port Harcourt, as the Rotary calendar turned a new page, something extraordinary stirred—a promise of dignity, health, and hope. The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt GRA, in partnership with the Interact Club of Model Secondary School, unveiled a gift that speaks not just to infrastructure, but to humanity itself.
Water. Life. Dignity.
Beneath the grounds of Model Secondary School, a new solar-powered borehole now hums with quiet purpose—filling two 5,000-liter overhead tanks that rise above the school’s roofline. The result? Clean, hygienic, sustainable water, flowing freely to sparkling drinking taps and gleaming wash basins.
Where water was once a luxury, it is now a right. This wasn’t merely a project launch—it was a rebirth. A restoration. A reaffirmation of Rotary’s belief that water is life, and every child deserves it.
Safe School, Secure Future
Beyond the school gates, safety has found a voice.
A newly installed entrance gate now stands strong.
A pedestrian crossing guides young feet.
Bright, visible road signs remind all who pass:
“Children learn here. Slow down.”
This transformation—this dual impact of water and safety—was fittingly unveiled by Rtn. Anthony O. Woghiren, District Governor of Rotary International District 9141, as his first official project, perfectly aligned with his district theme: Water for All.
A Community United
The unveiling was witnessed by over 1,000 students, dedicated teachers, proud parents, and passionate Rotarians—all united in purpose and moved by the impact.
For Club President Rtn. Patterson Ogon and his newly inducted Board, this moment marked more than the start of a Rotary year. It marked the beginning of a legacy—one grounded not in ceremony, but in service.
