EmpowerHer: Season 3
The EmpowerHer Project by the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt GRA equips secondary school girls with essential life skills, fostering confidence, resilience, and personal safety. Launched in 2021, the initiative addresses pressing issues such as gender-based violence, health risks, and low self-esteem.
This year’s six-week program trained 50 students from three schools in self-defense, first aid, hygiene, and life skills. Key partners included Zen Budo Karate (self-defense), the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN) (health education), and Rotarians who provided mentorship. Interact Clubs were also established to reinforce learning and support peer mentoring.
EmpowerHer directly benefits 50 girls and reaches over 10,000 households through the ripple effect of shared knowledge. By integrating Rotary youth programs like RYLA, the project nurtures resilient young leaders equipped to positively impact their communities.
EmpowerHer is creating safer, healthier futures for girls—empowering them not only to thrive but also to lead and inspire change.
