The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt GRA, in collaboration with Evangeline’s Care and Wellness Foundation (ECWF), has donated essential learning materials—including exercise books, school bags, and shoes—to students of De Wisdom Special School in Umuebulu 1, located in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.
As part of Rotary International’s focus on literacy and education during the month of September, the Club has taken this initiative a step further by emphasizing inclusive education. This approach seeks to reach segments of society often excluded from mainstream educational programs, particularly children with special needs.
The objective of this project was to provide comprehensive school kits—comprising bags, shoes, notebooks, learning aids, and specially designed tools for children living with conditions such as autism, Down syndrome, and visual impairments.
In recognition of the school’s boarding facilities, which house the majority of its students, the Club also donated food and cooking supplies, including rice, beans, pasta, yams, tomatoes, vegetable oil, and other staples.
This intervention directly benefited 53 students, helping to eliminate barriers to education and enabling them to participate more fully in a supportive learning environment. Additionally, teachers were equipped with enhanced resources, empowering them to better address the diverse educational needs of their students.
By supporting a school dedicated to children with special needs, the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt GRA aligns itself with global objectives aimed at improving educational access for marginalized and under served populations.
Beyond the distribution of materials, the Club is committed to actively engaging with the community to foster a culture of inclusion—one in which every child’s unique potential is recognized and celebrated.
This initiative represents a long-term investment in the educational outcomes of these children and affirms Rotary’s unwavering commitment to ensuring no child is left behind.
